No Series # on my camera?
Feb x, 2016
I bought a used Canon 7D from a photographer two years ago. I love the camera, information technology works swell. one day I wanted to download the updated DPP version on my figurer and it asked for the serial # on my photographic camera. on the bottom of the camera, there is the place with the silver strip where the series # is supposed to be but it is bare, NO SERIAL #. what does that mean? The lensman told me that his friend is from Saudi Arabia and goes to University here and the friends father buys him all these toys. the photographic camera was barely used. He even gave me an adaptor to plug in the wall because it is a europeean outlet.

If the serial number on your EOS camera has either rubbed off, or the sticker on which information technology is printed has been removed, you tin still locate the camera'due south serial number via EXIF data. Simply open one of your images (RAW or JPEG) in Canon'due south Digital Photo Professional software (complimentary in the box with every EOS camera) and and so either correct-click and choose 'Info...' or select "File' > 'Info.' Either of these will bring a popular-upwardly window that displays various file EXIF data. Towards the bottom you volition notice an entry named 'Camera Body No.' - the number hither is your camera's serial number.

Re: No Series # on my photographic camera?
the characterization is in that location, not a scratch on it and the argent strip where the series # is, is blank, wasn't scratched off or erased. it looks like there was never a # on it. I detect it and then weird. I brought it to a camera store here and they just shook their head, "never saw that before"!

Catechism DPP software also shows serial # in the info material from images.
Too, any valid serial number will work to download the software. Doesn't have to be for your body.

Just use a serial number from one of your Canon lenses. Should work.

Not to be similar Mr. Pirate or annihilation, simply often when I've needed to install DPP and didn't have a Ser# handy, I merely Googled for images of the bottom of a current camera model and in that location's usually one with a # in it. Has saved me a few times when working on other folks' computers and needed to install information technology when the owners were non available.
Personally, I don't see why Canon's and then uptight about their software being downloaded freely. No one can use it except for Canon owners anyhow.

This has baffled me for the longest fourth dimension myself especially when Adobe Camera Raw too reads canon raw files and do a very good job of processing them and to some extent better.

Sometimes it's a legal thing. Past making you enter a serial number they are making it clear that the software is not freeware/shareware, just owned by them and only for use past Canon customers. This would help protect them if anyone was able to tweak the software to work with other photographic camera files.
